Nothing met our expectations and we came to
the conclusion that building our home was
the only way to go if we were going to find
something that aligned with our vision, says
the owner. And so the journey of creating this
home began.
After finding a piece of land in an estate in
Randburg, the home owners set about designing the home
with the architect, transferring their dreams for the property
to paper, 2D and 3D renders and finally to real life about a year
later. There were a few challenges during the initial design
stages, but once the building commenced, the project was
well-managed by the building contractor. >

specialises in quality home renovation, building projects,
renovations and upgrades, operating in Gauteng and the
Cape Winelands. HoD Developments was responsible for the
home’s construction from start to finish, blending wood, glass,
brick and concrete to create the contemporary look required
by the home owners. Its hands-on management approach
ensured timely completion within budget.

Personalised pedestals and a dressing table were made for the
home’s main bedroom in African limba (white ofram), with a
luxurious, clear oil finish and push-to-open drawers. The greylacquered
MDF and bendi-ply interior add strength and shape for
overall enduring quality and style.
ABOVE: QS Products specialises in 304-grade stainless steel
ironmongery. Its signature range of stainless steel door handles
is supported by a full complement of locks, cylinders, hinges
and hydraulic door controls. To complement the contemporary
aesthetic of the home, QS Products supplied all handles, locks
and accessories in a high-grade black matt powder coat.

ABOVE: Sequ-Door delivered a sleek architectural statement
using charcoal aluminium windows, sliding folding and palace
doors, complemented by a striking glazed facade. Designed to
enhance natural light and flow, every element was chosen to
meet energy-efficiency standards without sacrificing elegance
while seamlessly uniting indoor and outdoor living through
thoughtful craftsmanship and precision installation.
The property was designed with comfort, space and the
future in mind. With a new baby on the way, one of the upstairs
bedrooms will soon be turned into a nursery.
The contemporary design features large glass windows,
geometric shapes and a combination of smooth, light-painted
walls with exposed brick in select areas and dark window frames.
“We love the mixture of materials with the face brick, painted
walls and our ‘off-shutter concrete’ feature wall that, together
with the concrete pavers and concrete-look tiles, gives the
design an industrial influence,” says the home owner.
The concrete feature wall runs diagonally through the
residence, extending from the front door to the outdoor braai
area and rising well above the double-volume ceiling. It’s the
home’s most unique feature – a statement piece that forms the
‘spine’ of the structure.
The interior features a contemporary minimalist style, which
ties in with the exterior aesthetic. A neutral colour palette was
selected to give a clean, spacious feel throughout the home.
“Our interior designer helped us bring in spots of colour where
we could,” explains the owner. Texture was incorporated in the
soft furnishings, and the wallpaper used on several feature walls
brings in texture and colour simultaneously. Wood flooring,
furniture and framed artwork bring warmth to the home,
providing a balance between the more industrial-style-inspired
concrete and stone elements.

The contemporary Rome shutter-style roller blind for the home.
The blind was produced in a textured, concrete-coloured fabric
and encased within a custom square metal cassette to achieve a
polished, architectural finish.
